Finding Motion Sickness Remedies That Work
If you suffer from motion sickness, then the thought of any travel can be very unpleasant indeed. In fact, some people suffer such severe motion sickness that they avoid travel, to the extent on missing out on vacations and holidays they could be enjoying! However, there are motion sickness remedies that work. Sometimes you just need to experiment a bit!
Right up there with a bad hangover or some food poisoning, a bad case of motion sickness is one of the most miserable experiences you can have. The whole world spins around you, and you can’t ever remember feeling more nauseous. Motion sickness can spoil an otherwise fun cruise, make a day of traveling by plane a total nightmare, and even ruin a good road trip. Fortunately there are several motion sickness remedies that can help you avoid motion sickness.
Some people are much more prone to motion sickness than others, but even if you’ve never had it you’re still at risk. Indeed, even the most seasoned travelers and sailors can suddenly experience motion sickness. Motion sickness is party psychological, so some motion sickness remedies focus on different ways of getting you mind off of the problem. Don’t think about feeling sick, think about what a good time you’re having. Just imagining feeling sick can often bring it on if you are already experiencing some motion sickness symptoms.
If you’re in a boat or car, getting some fresh air may serve as a good motion sickness remedy. Roll the window down, or stand up on the deck awhile. Breath deeply and slowly. Spend some time with your eyes closed, or if you can, travel at night. Motion sickness occurs partly due to what you are seeing in addition to what you are feeling, so if you can’t see anything you’ll be less likely to get sick. Avoid alcohol or nicotine, as both of these can make you more likely to get nauseous. If you're in a car, look at the upcoming road rather than out the sides, or even better, take a turn driving for awhile. Getting plenty of sleep before going on your trip can help as well.
The best motion sickness remedies for me have always been medications. Because I only travel occasionally, I don’t feel any hesitation about popping some pills when I do. I’ve found that the drug used in the medication ‘Dramamine’ works especially well. You take it an hour or so prior to getting on your plane, boat, or in your car, and it works like magic. There are different ways of administering this medication, such as patches and wristbands and pills, and they are all effective motion sickness remedies for me.
Like everything else, what works for some people may not work for others. If you know you are prone to motion sickness you may need to do a little trial and error research for effective motion sickness remedies.
